PainRelief.io® exists because of a motorcycle accident, a hospital bed, and a moment of inspiration.

How It Started

In 2012, inventor Rhett F. Spencer was in a motorcycle accident that left him with six broken ribs and a two-day hospital stay. What followed could have been a long, difficult recovery — made harder by the side effects of the pain medication that came with it.

Instead, Rhett had a moment of inspiration. He'd been working on nanocapacitors for a new kind of antenna, and it occurred to him that the technology might do something unexpected. He asked his wife to retrieve the antenna he'd built just two days earlier and place it on his chest. She did, and Rhett fell asleep almost immediately.

A few hours later, he woke up on his way to the bathroom and realized the intense, see-stars pain he'd been living with was gone.

He told his wife he was out of pain and could breathe as deeply as he wanted. She didn't believe him — he hadn't taken any of the opioids he'd been prescribed. "Raise your arm," she said, testing him. He did, and quickly put it back down — that still hurt. But once his arm was lowered again, the pain faded quickly.

Over the next five days, Rhett wore the makeshift patch and recovered without taking any other medication.

Then the real search began — figuring out how, exactly, this had worked. Five years of research, testing, and prototypes followed, tried first on friends and family, before the product launched in 2017.

That search led to patented NeuroCuple® technology — a passive, drug-free approach designed to work with the body's own bioelectrical environment.

What We Build

PainRelief.io® is the direct-to-consumer home of NeuroCuple® nanocapacitive technology, developed and manufactured by nCAP Medical Inc. Every device we make is designed around the same core idea: reusable, drug-free pain relief that fits into real life, not just a single treatment session.

That technology is protected by four U.S. patents spanning 2020 to 2026, and has been evaluated in published clinical research — including a randomized, placebo-controlled trial showing reduced opioid use and shorter hospital stays following total knee arthroplasty.

What We Believe

Pain relief shouldn't have to mean a growing pile of disposable patches, another prescription, or side effects that feel worse than the problem you started with. We believe in giving people another genuine option — one that's reusable, drug-free, and backed by real research rather than just a marketing claim.

We also believe in being honest about what our technology can and can't do. It isn't a cure-all, and it isn't a replacement for medical care when something serious is going on. It's one more tool — a good one, we think — for people trying to get back to their lives with a little less pain getting in the way.
